Hawks Cay Resort Provides Every Excuse To Never Want To Leave The Florida Keys

Dispatch · Winter in Tuscany

You know that feeling when a getaway is so good it not only makes you feel a million miles from reality while you're there, but keeps you daydreaming about it for weeks after you're back home? Yeah, that's the vibe.

Whether you're planning a romantic weekend escape for two or a full week of family fun (yes, even your four-legged besties are welcome!), Hawks Cay Resort in the Florida Keys delivers an experience you honestly won't stop thinking about.

Tucked away on Duck Key, it's about an hour from Key Largo, 15 minutes from Marathon, and an hour and a half to Key West — sitting pretty on 60 acres right about halfway down the Keys.

There's a full-service marina where you can book fishing adventures, an on-site spa, three (yes, THREE) resort pools, a fitness center, sports courts, expansive guest rooms, suites, and villas, plus multiple dining options. Honestly, you could spend your entire trip without ever leaving the property and be completely happy.

There's also a saltwater lagoon fed straight from the Atlantic Ocean where you can snorkel, swim, or paddleboard — it's this really cool, non-traditional swimming spot that makes you feel like you've stumbled upon a secret slice of ocean paradise.

From the moment you arrive, the friendly valet team greets you, helps with your bags, shows you where to check in, and whisks your car away. And the bellmen will drive you by tram anywhere on property — which honestly feels very VIP and very fun.

I highly recommend booking one of their Island Junior Suites — they feature a retractable glass wall that opens right up to a spacious balcony with the most stunning views of the pool and ocean. Morning coffee with that view? Unreal.

These studio-style suites have a king bedroom and a separate living area designed for just kicking back and soaking in all that gorgeous seaside scenery. Trust me, you'll never want to leave the room.

The dining here is exceptional, you guys. Whether you're celebrating something special and want an elevated experience or just keeping it casual, there are five — count 'em, FIVE — options to choose from.

The recently opened, Asian-inspired Pilar Bar is adults only and features an impressive selection of sake, Japanese fare and cocktails, plus fresh made-to-order hand rolls and sushi that are honestly to die for.

Sure, they've got the classics like a traditional tuna or salmon roll, but why not live a little and go for the colorful rainbow roll topped with avocado and assorted sashimi? You're on vacation, after all!

Other must-trys at this popular spot next to Oasis Cay Pool include the crispy salmon skin roll, chicken lemongrass gyoza, Hamachi crudo, pork belly bao buns, and Singapore noodles. I literally couldn't pick a favorite if I tried.

After a day of chilling by the pool or beach, make your way to the bar at the Tiki Grill — it's the perfect wind-down spot.

This open-air spot serves up tasty snacks like conch fritters, Keys smoked fish dip, and lemon chickpea hummus — honestly the best poolside bites.

For something heartier, try their Tikidilla (their fun take on a quesadilla made with fish, shrimp, or chicken), a Mahi Ruben, or Tiki turkey club. Every single one is a winner.

If you're looking for a truly unforgettable dinner, head to the resort's signature eatery, Salt + Ash, where Top Chef and Michelin star winner Jeremy Ford runs the kitchen. Yes, THE Jeremy Ford. I know, right?

The bustling bar and indoor dining room are always popular with guests looking for elevated fare, and the covered outdoor patio welcomes leashed four-legged friends to dine alongside their humans — so your pup can be part of the experience too!

Start with the Key West pink shrimp — they're even better paired with charred shishitos and house-made cocktail sauce. And the low country ham fritters with smoked paprika emulsion, marigold, and aged Manchego? Absolutely addictive.

Raw bar highlights include oysters on the half shell with Asian pear mignonette, a wood-oven version with Spanish chorizo, harissa, and house hot sauce, and coconut tuna ceviche with jalapeño, sweet pepper, lime, cilantro, and coconut milk infusion. I couldn't stop ordering.

The charred Maitake pizza is so addicting you may literally not be able to stop eating the entire pie. Topped with citrus braised king trumpets, Maitake, and oyster mushrooms, this standout pizza features the most incredible garlic parsley oil. You've been warned.

For the meat lovers, there's a gorgeous selection of butcher cuts — everything from a 16-ounce Prime Delmonico and 24-ounce Prime porterhouse to a 10-ounce beef tenderloin and steak frites featuring a Prime skirt steak cooked to perfection, topped with creamy cognac peppercorn sauce, and served with golden herb frites. Honestly, I'm getting hungry just thinking about it.

With so many dining options and acres upon acres to explore, this beachfront property gives you every excuse to never leave — but if you're looking for off-property adventures, the Activities/Concierge desk is always ready to help you plan.

When you check in, the front desk gives you a daily calendar of activities — think dive-in Bingo, popsicle pool-ooza, fish feeding at the marina dock, and even a "sand-sational" castle competition. There's literally something fun happening every moment.

While you're deciding what to do, grab one of the complimentary bikes and take a spin around the property — it's such a lovely way to explore.

On weekends, you absolutely cannot miss brunch at Angler & Ale, where you can nosh on everything from fish tacos to a juicy half-pound Angler burger served with crispy fries. Brunch goals, achieved.

Located right on the docks of Hawks Cay Marina, this island-style eatery focuses on fresh seafood for a true "hook-and-cook" experience. You can literally watch the boats while you eat.

Their seafood specialties include conch chowder, Kung pao calamari, Caribbean firecracker shrimp, a whole fried yellow tail snapper, and lobster ravioli. Every dish screams "island vacation" in the best way.

And here's the coolest part — if you catch a fish yourself and bring it to the restaurant, the chefs will sear or blacken it, or top it with a flavorful citrus beurre blanc or tropical salsa. Your catch, their kitchen. How fun is that?

Make sure you save room for their signature desserts — a slice of heavenly Dubai chocolate cake or classic Key lime pie. I mean, you're in the Keys. Key lime pie is basically mandatory.

The restaurant also features live music every day from 7 to 10 p.m., which just adds the perfect island soundtrack to your evening.

And if you're by the main pool, there's a DJ spinning daily from 12 to 4 p.m. — because pool parties are a lifestyle here.

Hawks Cay Resort is located at 61 Hawks Cay Boulevard in Duck Key, Florida. Start planning your escape!
